LIU Brooklyn returned to action on Thursday looking to start a new winning streak which was snapped on Saturday in their loss to first-place Fairleigh Dickinson on the road.

The Blackbirds with the help of their starting upperclassmen made just enough plays to edge out Sacred Heart at the Pitt Center in their 60-57 victory Thursday night.

LIU got off to a slow start and trailed 10-3 nearly six and half minutes into the game which saw LIU head coach Jack Perri visible frustrated and looking for some kind of spark to get his team going. Perri even inserted little-used walk-on Mitchell McMullen as well as sparsely-used senior Glenn Feidanga into the game five minutes in before quickly going back to his starters.  [Read more…]

No matter if it’s a Battle of Brooklyn game or the non-Battle of Brooklyn game, no matter the teams record going in, the games between LIU Brooklyn and St. Francis Brooklyn are almost always tough battles and on Saturday at the Steinberg Wellness Center, it was no exception.

The Blackbirds closed the game on a 13-4 run and erased a four-point deficit with over five minutes left to play to defeat St. Francis Brooklyn 63-58 in the first of two meetings between the two Brooklyn schools. [Read more…]

It sure wasn’t pretty but at the end of the day, any win is a good win and for LIU Brooklyn they made just enough plays on a night in which they didn’t play their best basketball in coming away with a 60-49 win over Central Connecticut State at the Steinberg Wellness Center Thursday night.

LIU was able to shake off a slow start in which they didn’t score their first point until four minutes had passed and didn’t get their first field goal until well over six minutes in.

The Blackbirds got going with an 8-0 run led by a pair of threes from sophomore Raul Frias but CCSU immediately answered with a 6-0 run of their own but LIU retook the lead for good following an Iverson Fleming three-pointer which put them up 14-11 with 6:43 left.  [Read more…]

LIU Brooklyn impressively sweep Western PA trip, now 3-1 in NEC

It is always tricky when NEC teams, especially those in the tri-state area as well as Bryant, have to make the long bus trip to Western Pennsylvania to face Robert Morris and Saint Francis U on the road. Teams from out east usually never look forward to the multiple-hour ride to Moon Township and Loretto.

LIU Brooklyn this weekend made the journey out west to face Robert Morris on Thursday and Saint Francis U. on Saturday and left Western Pennsylvania with a pair of impressive road wins, defeating RMU 65-54 and defeating SFU 83-70. [Read more…]

Yes, it is only the second game of the Northeast Conference season but with a looming trip to Western Pennsylvania to face Robert Morris and St. Francis U. next weekend, it was a big game for LIU Brooklyn to try and get at home against Bryant Saturday afternoon.

The Blackbirds got a huge boost from starting point guard Jashaun Agosto after he missed Thursday’s heartbreaking loss to Mount St. Mary’s and along with another double-double from senior forward Jerome Frink, LIU Brooklyn built a 17-point halftime lead and would go on to beat Bryant 74-63 to even their NEC record at 1-1 and snap a four-game losing streak in the process. In what was a tight and at times a chippy affair between Mount St. Mary’s and LIU Brooklyn at the Steinberg Wellness Center in the 2016-17 Northeast Conference opener, it came down to the final 4.2 seconds to determine a winner.

Mount St. Mary’s junior forward Chris Wray went coast-to-coast and put in a layup high off the glass and possibly off the fingertips of LIU’s Raiquan Clark to beat the Blackbirds on the road 67-65 in a heartbreaking fashion.

LIU Brooklyn couldn’t hold on to a nine-point halftime lead and that built up to eleven after a Nura Zanna dunk to start the second half scoring.  [Read more…]
