Series History

103rd all-time meeting.

LIU Brooklyn leads the all-time series 57-45. LIU swept both regular season meetings against Wagner last season but Wagner won the most important meeting, beating the Blackbirds in the NEC Tournament semifinals at the Spiro Sports Center 81-65.

Who to watch on the other side

Michael Carey – 6’5” senior forward

After a rather underachieving non-conference season, Carey has gotten back to being the Carey we all saw last season as he has stepped it up big time in NEC play. He is averaging nearly 15 points and 11 rebounds per game in conference play. Against FDU on January 5th, he went off for his best game of the season in which he finished with 21 points and 22 rebounds. In the NEC tournament game vs LIU last season, he dropped 28 points to go along with 10 rebounds to end the Blackbirds’ season.

What you need to know

LIU Brooklyn is on a five-game winning streak and remains in a three-way tie for first place in the NEC standing with FDU and Mount St. Mary’s at 5-1 going into the Thursday night slate of games.

Last Saturday, three LIU players finished with double-doubles against St. Francis Brooklyn making it the third time since 2010 in which that happened for LIU and just the fourth time in the entire NEC.

Wagner was picked to finish second in the NEC preseason coaches poll just behind FDU and garnered four of the ten first-place votes. Wagner comes into the contest at 3-3 and currently sits tied for fourth place in the NEC standings.

Wagner junior point guard JoJo Cooper has returned to the Wagner lineup last week after missing the prior two games serving an indefinite suspension for violation of team rules.

LIU Brooklyn is ranked eleventh in the nation in offensive rebounding percentage at 37.8 percent.

Nura Zanna leads in the NEC in double-doubles with ten. He has amassed a double-double in each of his last four games and in eight of his last ten.
