LIU Brooklyn received some nice news over the weekend. The Blackbirds landed their first 2017 commit in guard Shyheim Hicks.
Hicks is a 6’2” combo guard out of Commonwealth Academy in Springfield, Massachusetts. He gave his verbal commitment to LIU Brooklyn head coach Jack Perri and his coaching staff on Saturday and put out this tweet:
Hicks is already a 1,000-point scorer in high school and became the first player in school history to reach that mark. He picked LIU Brooklyn over offers from Manhattan, Iona, St. Bonaventure, Canisius, Buffalo and New Hampshire.
Here are a couple of YouTube highlight videos of Hicks in action:
Hicks displays to have a great handle with a nasty crossover and nice shooting touch from outside. He also appears to have some nice court vision as well and some nice passing skills.
With Hicks off the board, LIU will likely start homing in some bigs especially at the 3 and 4 positions as they head into their final season with guys like Joel Hernandez, Glenn Feidanga and Jerome Frink.
Also, in current roster news, LIU seem to have added another walk-on to this season’s team. According to a tweet put out by Middletown High School (CT) Athletics, LIU has added Caylen Williams pending eligibility clearance from the NCAA Clearinghouse.
Williams is a 5’10” guard according to MaxPreps. He would be the fourth walk-on on this season’s roster joining junior Mark Parisi, sophomores Mitchell McMullen and Raiquan Clark and become the 16th player on LIU’s 2016-17 roster.
