On Monday, the Northeast Conference announced LIU Brooklyn junior guard Aakim Saintil was named NEC Player of the Week for his performances during last week’s games against Wagner and Bryant on the road.

Saintil averaged 21.5 points, 4.0 assists and 3.5 rebounds and shot 52 percent from the floor while making five of ten three-pointers and missing just one of thirteen free throw attempts.

Saintil went off for a career-high 27 points in a come-from-behind 71-70 win at Wagner Thursday night. He then followed that performance up with 16 points and four assists in LIU’s 79-61 win at Bryant which was LIU’s largest margin of victory this season.

Saintil had come into the week on a pretty brutal shooting slump as he was shooting shooting 22% from the field and 16% from three over his last six games before these two games this past week.

Saintil is now the third LIU Brooklyn player this season to be named NEC Player of the Week along with Jerome Frink (twice) and Martin Hermannsson. LIU becomes the first NEC team since Bryant in the 2013-14 season to have three different player be named NEC Player of the Week and the first LIU team since the Blackbirds of the 2011-12 season to have three different NEC Player of the Week (Julian Boyd, Jamal Olasewere, Jason Brickman).

LIU will try to go 3-0 on their current road trip as they face Fairleigh Dickinson on Thursday night and try to get over .500 in NEC play.
