Two new assistant coaches added to LIU Brooklyn men’s basketball coaching staff

Fourth-year LIU Brooklyn head coach Jack Perri announced on Wednesday morning the addition of two new assistant coaches to his coaching staff.

The Blackbirds have added Kenyon Spears as their new assistant coach who replaces Mark Calzonetti* who leaves after three seasons at LIU.

Spears arrives to LIU from University of New Orleans where he spent the last three season as the top assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for UNO head coach Mark Slessinger.

Spears also previously was an assistant coach at Brown for one season before going to UNO. He is also very familiar with the Northeast Conference having been an assistant coach at Wagner for five seasons during Mike Deane’s tenure at Grymes Hill. Before that, he coached at his alma mater Lamar under Deane who he also played for.

Perri also added a new Director of Basketball Operations in Alvin Vivican III. Vivican replaces Jim Mack who was promoted to an assistant coach on the coaching staff after former long-time assistant coach Jason Harris left LIU to become head coach at UMass Boston.

Vivican played his college basketball at Division II Adelphi University out in Garden City, Long Island from 2006 to 2009. Vivican is from Brentwood, NY out in Suffolk County, Long Island. This is Vivican’s first college coaching position.

The new coaches join Mack, who enters his second season on the LIU coaching staff, and assistant coach Charles Bridge who enters his sixth season overall at LIU. Head coach Jack Perri enters into his eleventh season overall at LIU.

Update 9/22/15 3pm: Iona Men’s Basketball announced today that Iona head coach Tim Cluess has rehired former LIU Brooklyn assistant coach Mark Calzonetti who spent two seasons at Iona prior to coming to LIU back in 2012 to join Jack Perri’s staff in Perri’s first season as LIU head coach.
