2015-16 College Basketball Preview Magazines make their NEC predictions

The start of practice for the upcoming college basketball season is so close now you can almost hear the bouncing of the balls and the squeaking of sneakers on the gym floor.

This Friday is the official start date of the season and begins the countdown to opening night on November 13th. With the season getting ever so closer, it is the start of prediction time and with that, three college basketball preview magazines have hit the newsstands this month in Lindy’s SportsAthlon Sports and Sporting News College Basketball Yearbook.

Each magazine made their predictions for how each Division I conference will fare in 2015-16. Usually in these magazines, the one-bid conferences like the Northeast Conference are pretty much summarized into one paragraph per team and take up about a page to a page and half of the entire magazine. Ten players remain on LIU Brooklyn women’s basketball 2015-16 roster

It seems like the winds of change have finally blown through the LIU Brooklyn women’s basketball program.

In May, LIU hired Stephanie Oliver as their new head coach and at the time of her official annoucement, LIU had fourteen returning players on their roster. Although it would have been nice, it would have been hard to expect Oliver to retain all fourteen players considering they were all recruited by former LIU head coach Gail Striegler and her staff. Expecting one or two players to go would have not been surprising. But as the school year has arrived and preparations for the 2015-16 season gets going in earnest, the LIU women’s basketball team is left with just ten players on their final roster to go into the season in year one of the Oliver era.

Four players are presumed no longer with the program. These players are Mercedes Harris, Jahmia Phillips, Demi Tomlinson and Sophie Bhasin. [Read more…]

The inclusion of the two walk-ons put the official final number of players on the roster to sixteen, 13 scholarship players and three walk-ons. The sixteen players on the LIU roster is a high for the program in the Jack Perri head coaching era. In fact, I can’t remember the last time LIU had sixteen players on their current roster.
