Because it is summer, it doesn’t mean there isn’t any basketball to enjoy. Summer leagues in the tri-state area have either started or are about getting ready to start this week and that means some guys on your favorite college basketball teams will be hitting the local gyms and hardcourts somewhere near your neck of the woods.
Some summer leagues like the Dyckman Basketball Summer League up at Dyckman Park in upper Manhattan and the Nike Pro City League at Baruch College in Manhattan, the Victory Pro-Am Summer League in Princeton, New Jersey are already underway. Some others like the Entertainers Basketball Classic at Rucker Park on 155th Street and 8th Ave and the Jersey Shore Basketball League in Wall Township, New Jersey begin tonight.
With the summer leagues beginning to go into full swing, several players from around the NEC are participating in one and in a couple cases, a couple of these summer leagues.
Right now, the league that seems to have the most NEC participants is the Jersey Shore Basketball League (JSBL). The JSBL, according to their roster list, have five current NEC players playing. These players are LIU Brooklyn’s Jerome Frink and Nura Zanna, Wagner’s Mike Aaman and Dwaun Anderson, FDU’s Tyrone O’ Garro.
The two most interesting NEC names appearing at the JSBL are Frink and Anderson. LIU’s Jerome Frink sat out last season as he transferred from FIU and he is expected to have an immediate impact on Jack Perri’s Blackbirds team next season in the front court. The other is Wagner’s Dwaun Anderson, who basically missed the entire 2014-15 season with a broken bone in his left foot with the exception of playing six minutes in a game against Mount St. Mary’s in January.
So if need your summertime hoops fix, these summer leagues are for you.
