Stephanie Oliver announces her coaching staff for LIU Brooklyn WBB

New LIU Brooklyn women’s basketball head coach Stephanie Oliver today revealed two members of her coaching staff for her first season at the helm of the Blackbirds.

Oliver announced she has brought in Heather Zurich and Tim Gardner to join her on the bench next season. They will join the only returnee from former head coach Gail Streigler’s coaching staff last season in Director of Basketball Operations Hillary Spears.

Heather Zurich arrives at LIU after spending the last four seasons as an assistant coach at the UC-Santa Barbara under their former head coach Carlene Mitchell. Zurich is familiar with the NEC, spending a year as a grad assistant coach at Wagner in 2010-11 before she left out west. She played her playing career at Rutgers under Hall of Fame head coach C. Vivian Stringer from 2005 to 2009. She started in 86 of her 122 games at Rutgers and had a 4.5 career points per game average. Rutgers went to the NCAA Tournament all four years of her playing career.

Tim Gardner comes to LIU from Iona College in New Rochelle after spending last season there as an assistant coach. The previous season, Gardner worked with Oliver at Seton Hall as the Director of Basketball Operations. He was previously at Iona from 2011 to 2013 as the Gaels’ Director of Basketball Operations. He also worked for six seasons at Division II Kean University in Union, NJ as their top assistant coach and recruiting coordinator.

Hillary Spears is the only holdover from Gail Striegler’s staff last season. Spears arrived at LIU prior to last season and returns for her second season as LIU’s Director of Basketball Operations.
