It has been a busy last 24 hours or so for LIU Brooklyn head coach Jack Perri and his coaching staff. Apparently, on Tuesday they landed not one but two commitments with the addition of combo guard Raul Frias which was learned about yesterday and late spreading news that LIU also landed 6’9”, 215 pounds forward/center Ganlandou Cisse out of Roselle Catholic High School in New Jersey where he was teammates with Kentucky recruit Isaiah Briscoe and South Carolina recruit Chris Silva.
The big man originally from Senegal, primarily came off the bench on a very deep and talented Roselle Catholic team and scored just 64 total points his senior year in 25 games played. He grabbed 35 rebounds and had seven blocks in limited playing time. In his junior year, Cisse scored 75 points for the season and grabbed 80 rebounds and had 27 blocks in 22 games played.
Last season his high school team, Roselle Catholic, won the New Jersey State Tournament of Champions for the second time in the past three seasons. Cisse had six rebounds and two blocks in the championship game against Pope John.
Cisse, according to VerbalCommits.com, had offers from Towson, Quinnipiac, Norfolk State and Canisius.
Here is his highlight reel from this past season which was posted up about three weeks ago:
With this latest commitment, LIU Brooklyn now has all thirteen scholarships accounted for once again. Cisse commitment makes him the fifth 2015 commit of the offseason for a very busy LIU Brooklyn coaching staff and the third player 6’7” or taller from this recruiting class.
Next season, LIU will have eight players 6’6″ or taller on their roster. The LIU coaching staff has done an incredible job in the last two recruiting classes building up the front court depth especially this offseason. Remember two seasons ago when injuries depleted LIU’s front court depth and they were forced to play Landon Atterberry at the five spot the entire season. Since that rough season, the LIU coaching staff really focused on making sure they had plenty of bodies up front and now they do.
With the 2015-16 roster hopefully now set, LIU will go into next season with no seniors, 5 juniors (Iverson Fleming, Joel Hernandez, Glenn Feidanga, Jerome Frink, Aakim Saintil) 4 sophomores (Martin Hermannsson, Nura Zanna, Trevin Woods, Trevon Woods) and 4 freshmen (Kwe Askew, Julius van Sauers, Raul Frias, Ganlandou Cisse).
