Two weeks ago, two LIU Brooklyn players announced their transfers which meant head coach Jack Perri and his coaching staff had to get right back to work recruiting to fill the open scholarship after the surprise departure of starting point guard Elvar Friðriksson.
This afternoon, LIU filled the open roster spot with the commitment of 6’2” combo guard Raul Frias from Mater Acadamy Charter School in Hialeah Gardens, Florida. The commitment was first announced by Colin Campbell on Twitter and then the tweet was later retweeted by Frias himself.
According to VerbalCommits.com, Frias had only one Division I offer and it was from fellow NEC school Sacred Heart and head coach Anthony Latina.
Last season, Frias was named on to the 2015 Class 8A-6A first-team All-Miami-Dade County. He was named on the third team Class 6A boys basketball All-State by SourceHoops and the Florida Association of Basketball Coaches. Frias averaged 21.4 points, 7.3 rebounds, 5.1 assists, 3 steals per game this past season as a senior.
Here is his Youtube highlight reel:
The reel shows him draining the three, driving and finishing as well as showing he can get up and finish both one-handed and two-handed.
