Stephanie Oliver announces her coaching staff for LIU Brooklyn WBB

New LIU Brooklyn women’s basketball head coach Stephanie Oliver today revealed two members of her coaching staff for her first season at the helm of the Blackbirds.

Oliver announced she has brought in Heather Zurich and Tim Gardner to join her on the bench next season. They will join the only returnee from former head coach Gail Streigler’s coaching staff last season in Director of Basketball Operations Hillary Spears. [Read more…]

Jason Harris leaves LIU Brooklyn to become new HC at UMass Boston

Longtime LIU Brooklyn men’s basketball assistant coach Jason Harris is leaving the program. But for very good reason.

On Monday, Harris was named the new head men’s basketball coach at UMass Boston, a NCAA Division III school in Boston, Massachusetts which plays in the Little East Conference.

Harris had been part of the LIU Brooklyn coaching staff for the last seven years and beside head coach Jack Perri, was the longest tenured coach in the program. He started as LIU’s Director of Basketball Operations back in 2008 and has spent the last five seasons as assistant coach. He, along with Perri, are the only two LIU coaches to be a part of all three NEC championships from 2010-13. [Read more…]

New Basketball Court Coming for the Blackbirds

The Steinberg Wellness Center is getting itself a bit of a makeover.

A couple of weeks ago, the work began on removing and replacing the existing court floor at the home of the Blackbirds to make way for a new floor for the 2015-16 season.

If you were at either volleyball matches or at any basketball games last season, you noticed LIU’s court had discoloration around the basketball keys on both sides. [Read more…]

Blackbirds gets fifth 2015 commit with addition of big man Ganlandou Cisse

It has been a busy last 24 hours or so for LIU Brooklyn head coach Jack Perri and his coaching staff. Apparently, on Tuesday they landed not one but two commitments with the addition of combo guard Raul Frias which was learned about yesterday and late spreading news that LIU also landed 6’9”, 215 pounds forward/center Ganlandou Cisse out of Roselle Catholic High School in New Jersey where he was teammates with Kentucky recruit Isaiah Briscoe and South Carolina recruit Chris Silva. Blackbirds lands fourth 2015 commit in guard Raul Frias

Two weeks ago, two LIU Brooklyn players announced their transfers which meant head coach Jack Perri and his coaching staff had to get right back to work recruiting to fill the open scholarship after the surprise departure of starting point guard Elvar Friðriksson.

This afternoon, LIU filled the open roster spot with the commitment of 6’2” combo guard Raul Frias from Mater Acadamy Charter School in Hialeah Gardens, Florida. The commitment was first announced by Colin Campbell on Twitter and then the tweet was later retweeted by Frias himself. [Read more…]
