It was a long, busy week for yours truly. So like some of you, you might have missed some of the recent LIU Brooklyn news and notes from the past few days. Here is a quick update in case you missed it.

On Monday, freshman guard Martin Hermannsson was honored once again by the Northeast Conference in being named NEC Rookie of the Week for his play last week. This is his second honor of the season and fifth overall by an LIU freshman. He now has two NEC Rookie of the Week honors along with teammate Nura Zanna. Teammate Elvar Friðriksson also has an NEC Rookie of the Week honor this season.

Hermannsson in helping LIU Brooklyn get a pair of big road wins out in Western Pennsylvania, averaged 12.5 points per game, 5.0 rebounds per game and 4.0 assists per game while shooting 53.8 percent from the floor and 83.2 percent from the free throw line.

Hermannsson scored 12 points, dished out five assists and grabbed five boards against Robert Morris in that huge come-from-behind win and then scored 13 points, handed out three assists and grabbed another five boards in a win at Saint Francis U.

Hermannsson is currently LIU Brooklyn’s second-leading scorer at 10.3 points per game for the season, and he is also second on the team in assists at 3.6 assists per game while also grabbing 3.8 rebounds per game. He is first on the team in minutes played this season at 31.8 minutes per game. He also lead the team in free throw shooting at 85%.

Congrats to Martin Hermansson on his second NEC Rookie of the Week honor.

Also, the two Iceland freshmen were featured in this week’s NEC Geico Google Hangout in which the pair got to be interviewed via Google Hangout by NEC Associate Commissoner Ron Ratner. In the interview, the pair talk about how they arrived at LIU, their lives back in Iceland before coming to the States to play college basketball, this season’s LIU team and their current hot streak, what they miss about home and what they like about playing basketball for LIU Brooklyn and living in New York City and more. According to Ron Ratner, the interview has already broken the NEC record for views for a NEC Geico Google Hangout in just over 36 hours with more than 1,000 views already and counting.

Check it out if you already haven’t already.
