LIU Athletics on Friday announced that graduating LIU Brooklyn point guard Jason Brickman has accepted an invitation to play in the prestigious Portsmouth Invitational Tournament (P.I.T.) in Portsmouth, Virginia. The 62nd edition of the P.I.T. will take place from April 16-19.
The P.I.T. is four-day tournament which invites 64 of the top college hoop seniors out to Portsmouth, VA and then split up into 8-teams of eight players each. Each team will play three games during the four-day tournament. Winners advance to the next round, losers play each other for standings.
This tournament is a showcase event where scouts and executives from every NBA team are usually in attendance as well as from international teams from pro leagues outside of the United States looking for new talent.
Brickman is the second LIU Brooklyn Blackbird in as many years to be invited to the P.I.T. Last year, 2013 NEC Player of the Year, LIU’s Jamal Olasewere was invited and participated. Olasewere played in all three games for his team coming off the bench and averaged 8.3 ppg and 3.6 rpg in 16.3 mpg. All but one player who participated in the P.I.T. last season got themselves a pro contract at one point during the 2013-14 season.
Due to Brickman’s invitation to the P.I.T., he will now not be playing in the Gotham Hoops Invitational on April 13th at Farmingdale State College in Long Island. He will be in attendance for the event but will not participate as he will now get himself ready to play in the P.I.T. a few days later. Other NEC players will be participating. The official rosters for the G.H.I. were released on Friday.
Last year, the P.I.T. were streamed online and hopefully it will be the case one again this season. Once I learn where it will be streamed, I will post the info up and tweet it out on Twitter @NelCastBHJ.
Congratulations to Jason for getting invited to the P.I.T. and BHJ as well as Blackbird Nation wishes him good luck at the tournament.
