Today, the Northeast Conference announced their weekly awards and two LIU Brooklyn men’s basketball players and one women’s basketball player earned recognition for their performances in the past seven days.

Senior point guard Jason Brickman was named NEC Player of the Week for the second time this season after earning the honor during the season’s first week. Brickman last week broke the 25-year old NEC career assist record, surpassing the 804 career assist of Marist’s Drafton Davis. Brickman had six assists versus NJIT last Thursday which now puts him at 808 career assists. Brickman also set a new career-high when he scored 21 points against NJIT, making a career-high five three-pointers. Brickman is still on pace to reach 1000 career assists this season and he is also currently on pace to finish with a double-double scoring and assist averages. He is currently averaging 11.1 ppg and 9.9 apg which is still leading the nation.

Joining Brickman with NEC honors this week is freshman Iverson Fleming who was named co-NEC Rookie of the Week for the first time. St. Francis Brooklyn’s Sheldon Hagigal was also named. Fleming had a breakout game against NJIT in which he scored a career-high 22 points coming off the bench in 19 minutes. Fleming, who took advantage of his extra playing time after junior Gilbert Parga hurt his ankle late in the first half, exploded in the second half, scoring 20 second-half points including making four very clutch free throws in the final 24 seconds of the game. Fleming was a perfect 8 of 8 from the free throw line, 2 of 4 from three, and 6 of 7 from inside the arc. Fleming is the first freshman to be named NEC Rookie of the Week since E.J. Reed was named back on January of 2013.

Finally, senior Cleandra Roberts was named NEC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week. She is the first LIU Brooklyn women’s basketball player to earn the honor this season. Roberts, who is having a outstanding season, averaged 22 ppg and 4.5 rpg in two games last week. Roberts tied her career-high with 23 points in helping LIU get their first win of the season against former NEC rival Monmouth. Roberts this season has scored in double-figures in all but one game. Roberts is currently fifth in the NEC in scoring with a 17.4 ppg average and is fourth in the NEC in rebounding at 8.4 rpg.

Congrats to Jason Brickman, Iverson Fleming and Cleandra Roberts in receiving this weekly honor.
