LIU Brooklyn gets a third 2014 commit in Jamil Hood Jr.

For second consecutive day, LIU Brooklyn landed a verbal commit. On Monday, it was learned that twins brother Trevon and Trevin Woods had verbally committed to play for Jack Perri and LIU Brooklyn. On Tuesday, LIU Brooklyn got another verbal commit from 2014 recruit Jamil Hood Jr., a 6’1″ point guard out of Green Tech High Charter School in Albany, NY. He played under his father, Jamil Hood Sr. who is the head coach at Green Tech.

Hood Jr. announced his commitment on Twitter on Tuesday evening:

ESPN recruiting gave Hood Jr. a two-star grade with a 62 rating. According to, he had also received offers from Seton Hall, Albany and Siena and according to recruiting expert Alex Kline, he also received an offer from Penn State.

Hood Jr. was originally considered to be in the 2015 class but apparently has reclassified to the 2014 recruiting class.

He received honorable mention from USA Today on the All-USA New York 2013 Boys Basketball Team after averaging 20.3 ppg his junior year. He was also named to New York State Sports Writer Association All-State Class AA Sixth Team (out of 12 teams).

What would be a commit announcement be without a YouTube highlight video to go with it. Here is Jamil Hood Jr.’s:

With this commitment, LIU Brooklyn has their third commit for the 2014 class. As of this moment, LIU Brooklyn only appears to have two scholarships open after this season with the expiring eligibilities of seniors Jason Brickman and Julian Boyd. LIU has a full complement of 13 scholarships players on their 2013-14 roster. It will be interesting to see how this all shakes out in the end.

The earliest any commit can sign a National Letter of Intent for the 2014-15 season is during the early signing period which opens on Wednesday, November 13 and closes on Wednesday, November 20.
