Game Highlights

On Day 2 of the 2013 FIBA African Championships better known as the AfroBasket, the Nigerian men’s national team took to the court for their first game of the tournament against Mali. Former LIU Blackbird Jamal Olasewere made his major international tournament debut for Team Nigeria. Olasewere wore jersey number 8 and came off the bench in this opening game.

Nigeria defeated Mali 74-59 to start the tournament 1-0.

Here was Jamal Olasewere’s stat line in today’s game:

FG 2pts 3pts FT Rbds
G Min M/A % M/A % M/A % M/A % O D Tot As PF To St BS Pts
1 22 2/6 33.3 1/3 33.3 1/3 33.3 1/2 50 2 1 3 3 1 2 0 1 6

Olasewere took half his shots from beyond the three-point arc which is not necessarily his game. He did have three assists and a nice block which started a Nigeria fast break and ended up in two free-throw attempts for his team. He also slammed one home for his only two-pointer of the game.

All in all, it was a decent debut for LIU Brooklyn’s all-time leading points scorer. Olasewere will be back on the court with Team Nigeria on Friday, August 23 when they take on Congo who lost today to Cameroon 74-43.
