This past week, 2013 NEC Player of the Year Jamal Olasewere headed to Portsmouth, Virginia to play in the annual Portsmouth Invitational Tournament (PIT) which is a tournament of 64 invited senior players who play in teams of eight players and they play in three games in front of NBA and international scouts and executives.
Olasewere was on a team named Portsmouth Sports Club (every team is named after a tournament sponsor). Olasewere played in all three games. Here are his lines for all three games:
Game 1: 3 pts, 1-3 FG, 1-4 FT, 3 rebs (1 off.), 2 stls, 1 ast, 2 TOs, 1 PF, 14 mins
Game 2: 14 pts, 6-11 FG, 1-2 3FG, 1-1 FT, 3 rebs, 2 stls, 4 PFs, 18 mins
Game 3: 8 pts, 3-6 FG, 2-4 FT, 5 rebs (2 off.), 2 asts, 1 blk, 1 stl, 1 TO, 17 mins
3 gm avg: 8.3 ppg, 10-20 FG (50%), 1-2 3FG (50%), 4-9 FT (44.4%), 3.6 rpg, 1.6 spg, 1 apg, 16.3 mpg
Olasewere didn’t seem to get the same amount of playing time as a lot of the other players in this tournament were getting. He averaged only 16.3 mpg in the PIT and didn’t get a single start in any of the three games. Even with the limited minutes, Olasewere played well with his 8.3 ppg and 3.6 rpg averages and 50% field goal shooting. He finished tied for 44th in the PIT in scoring, tied for 39th in rebounding, tied for 15th in field goal shooting, tied for 12th in steals, and 56th in free throw shooting. Portsmouth Sports Club went winless at the PIT.
Olasewere tweeted about how grateful he got a chance to participate and experience the 2013 PIT:
All in all, Olasewere played pretty well at the PIT and we will see if he gets to play in any more pre-NBA draft camps or tournaments in the coming weeks.
