LIU’s Jamal Olasewere amongst finalists for Lou Henson National Player of the Year

This past Monday, the list of finalists for the 2013 Lou Henson National Player of the Year award was announced. Among the finalists named was LIU Brooklyn’s senior forward Jamal Olasewere. The Lou Henson National Player of the Year award is given to the best mid-major player in college basketball.

Olasewere has flourished this season as the go-to guy for the LIU Brooklyn Blackbirds. For the season, Olasewere is averaging 18.8 points per game and 8.2 rebounds per game in 26 starts. He currently third in the NEC in overall scoring and sixth in rebounding.

Olasewere is among the front runners for NEC Player of the Year. He is the second LIU Brooklyn player in the last two seasons to be nominated for this award. Last season, NEC Player of the Year Julian Boyd was a finalist for this award.

LIU Brooklyn returns back to the Wellness Center for the final two home games of the regular season starting with a 7pm game on Thursday vs Sacred Heart followed by 4:30pm game on Saturday vs Quinnipiac which is also Senior Day.
