Quinnipiac and Monmouth reportedly leaving the NEC to head to MAAC

If you are a fan of the Northeast Conference, you knew the sharks were circling the waters. Dominos were falling left and right and it was only a matter of time before the NEC would be the next target. Today was the day, at least that’s the rumor. According to William Paxton of the Connecticut Post who broke the news on his Twitter feed, sources have told him that Quinnipiac and Monmouth will be leaving the NEC to head to the MAAC although no timetable was given. News and Notes Around the NEC: August 29

This morning the latest shot in the conference realignment battle was fired and again ironically it came from the Patriot League as they have pilfered their second school this summer as Loyola (MD) is leaving the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference to join the Patriot League. In June, the Patriot League was able to get Boston University to join from the America East Conference. This just set the realignment talk ablaze once again. The focus seems to be more and more set on the Northeast Conference and whether or not they can hold on to all 12 of their current members. [Read more…]
