2013 LIU Brooklyn commit Jahmal Lane set to go for next season

Good news continues to come the Blackbirds way as today it is known that 2013 commit Jahmal Lane out of St. Benedict’s Prep (post-grad) in Newark, New Jersey has gotten the necessary score on his SAT exam to be eligible right away for head coach Jack Perri and the LIU Brooklyn Blackbirds in the coming 2013-14 season.

Lane tweeted the good news on his Twitter feed this morning (actually time was 11:18am, don’t know why 4:18pm appears on the tweet):

As you can see if you click on the Instagram link in the tweet, it is a picture coming from recruiting guru Alex Kline’s (@TheRecruitScoopThe Recruit Scoop website, stating he is qualified and “good to go”.

Lane had verbally committed to LIU Brooklyn during the early signing period but did not sign a National Letter of Intent (NLI) due to the fact he was still academically ineligible. Now, with that he has qualified, he can finally sign his NLI during the regular signing period which starts on April 17.

This season, Lane has had at least six 20+ scoring games including a 32-point game back on January 23rd in a St. Benedict’s Prep win. Lane played at Plainfield High School in Plainfield, NJ his senior year in high school where he was named Union County (NJ) Player of the Year by the Newark Star-Ledger. He averaged 14 points and six rebounds a game on a 30-4 Plainfield High team, leading them to NJ state final appearance. He was also a teammate at Plainfield with FDU’s freshman point guard Sekou Harris.

Congratulations to Jahmal Lane on his academic achievement.

  2. Thanks Nelly nice job

  3. Guys LIU has 6 graduating seniors, 5 if Boyd returns. Then you add Gilbert Parga to the list making it four. Next add Nurra Zanna and Chris Carter, and J.Lane you now have 1 schollie to go get the next (err) nexest est guy you can to Brickman. He is a truly gifted offensive player, hope Coach Perri can reach in his bag of Tex I mean tricks again and pull out another great one.

    Thanks Nelson

  4. If Boyd comes back…. I am figuring one schollie remaining.

  5. Very Good news indeed!…. I just saw this and if it is true… Kedar’s addition would be fantastic…

We still need to recruit a PG… to work in behind J Brickman and for the years after his graduation.

    Sam..

    • I did see this yesterday. I got to check on how many scholarships LIU has remaining for the April signing period. They have 5 graduating seniors and then we aren’t sure what Julian Boyd’s status for next season is going to be. Add Edwards to the 3 already committed for next season, that leaves by my calculations two scholarships left unless someone currently on the team decides to transfer. Unless Edwards is already on scholarship which I’m not sure about, then they might have 3 schollys available. I have to check and see what the actual number is at the end of the season.
