The hits keep on coming for 6’6″ freshman forward E.J. Reed. The Mesquite, Texas native today was named NEC Rookie of the Week for the third consecutive week. Reed becomes the first LIU Brooklyn player ever to receive the honor for three straight weeks. The last NEC rookie to be named NEC Rookie of the Week three weeks in a row was Kyle Vinales of Central Connecticut State in November of last season. Vinales went on to win NEC Rookie of the Year.

E.J. Reed had another great week for the LIU Brooklyn Blackbirds. On Thursday, Reed scored 14 points on 5 of 9 shooting in 26 minutes in the loss to Wagner. On Saturday, he scored a career-high 21 points off the bench on 7 of 13 shooting in 28 minutes and grabbed seven rebounds in the win at the Barclays Center versus Mount St. Mary’s.

In the last five games, Reed has averaged 15.6 points per game and 4.4 rebounds per game in just over 27 minutes a game. His numbers for the season has now increased to 7.1 points per game and 3.8 rebounds per games while playing 19.6 minutes per game.

Once again, congratulations to E.J. Reed for another great week and receiving this honor once again.

  1. Hello again. I am a new fan of the Blackbirds since EJ Reeds arrival. I must admit, I am biased because EJ is my nephew. He has done a great job with the opportunities he’s gotten. You are right when you mentioned he needs a summer in the weight room and I’ve been telling him that. After this season he will know that and I’m sure he’s recognizing it already. I’d like to say what you do here is great and I want to keep following you and the Blackbirds. Thanks so much for this avenue.

    • Thanks so much for reading the blog KSJ. I greatly appreciate it and please continue coming back. A lot of LIU fans here are big fans of your nephew including myself. He was put in a tough spot for a freshman to step up and try and take some of the slack of the team losing their best player and he has done a great job in doing that and playing his game. He has impressed everyone pretty much from day one. The coaching staff have had nothing but praise for him since he arrived on campus in the summer/fall. No doubt he had his some early struggles as get used to the strength and pace of the college games especially when LIU was playing some tougher competition. Yet, his potential is limitless right now. He absolutely needs to hit the weight room in the offseason and of course continue working on his game. He gets bumped around and gets the ball knocked away from him too easily. He got to build up that upper body strength and I agree with you that he probably recognizes that now and will be working hard on it. The experience he is getting this season will go a long way towards him having a very solid college career.
