News and Notes Around the NEC: September 28

We are now exactly two weeks for the first official day of practice and the start of the 2012-13 college basketball season. 6am workouts will soon turn into 6am practices. We are also just over three weeks from the big in-person NEC “Social” Media Day for Men’s and Women’s basketball at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.  In a bit of exciting news, I can now confirm that I will be in attendance for this event to cover it for Blackbirds Hoops Journal. BHJ’s Top 30 Players in the Northeast Conference for 2012-13: #10-#1

So here we are. We finally made it to the Top 10. If you been following the NEC for last few years, all of these names should be very familiar. All of these players will be looked upon to be major contributors to their teams this season. The Northeast Conference doesn’t get the national attention as some of the other Division I conferences but that doesn’t mean that the conference is lacking in quality basketball players. There is a case that the level of talent within the NEC may be at its highest going into this upcoming 2012-13 season. Today we begin our look into the 2012-13 Northeast Conference men’s basketball season by listing the Top 30 players in the NEC. These are all players that people who already follow the NEC regularly know very well and for those who don’t the NEC as much, watch out for these guys because you might hear about them during the season at one time or another. Four LIU Brooklyn MBB Players Arrested, Charged with Assault

Late Thursday evening, News 12 Brooklyn’s Pat O’Keefe reported on his evening sportscast that four members of the LIU Brooklyn men’s basketball team were arrested and charged with third-degree assault, a misdemeanor. The players reportedly arrested were redshirt sophomore forward Troy Joseph, senior guard C.J. Garner, senior forward Jamal Olasewere, and senior forward and reigning NEC Player of the Year Julian Boyd. [Read more…]

News and Notes Around the NEC: September 14

– On Tuesday, Robert Morris released their full 2012-13 men’s basketball schedule. The Colonials were apparently waiting for the NIT Season Tip-Off schedule to be announced before officially releasing their schedule. RMU head coach Andy Toole and his staff his once again come up with another challenging non-conference schedule for the upcoming season. [Read more…]
